The dedication and engagement of PS 163 parents on behalf of NYC school children was recently recognized by a leading political advocacy group. Three Parks Independent Democrats, represented by Board Member and PS163 parent alum Elizabeth Gellert, honored the PS 163 PTA leadership and, by extension, the Task Force for a Safe School, with its annual community service award on May 7. Ms. Gellert cited the extraordinary commitment that parent leaders have made to protect the students of PS 163 through civic engagement.
TFSS Chair Rene Kathawala, who was unable to attend the event, later commented, "The PS 163 community is proud to receive this recognition. Most important for us is to ensure the safety, health and education priorities for our children. We hope the City Council will recognize the value and necessity of a legislative solution to the city-wide problem of noisy construction taking place directly next to schools and significantly interfering with the educational opportunities of all of our children. Our school's situation is just one of many examples. We hope this kind of recognition will shine an even brighter spotlight on the need for this sensible and permanent solution."
